Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD.8 He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. Jer. 17:7-8
In Arizona we are used to much of the terrain being brown, rocky, dusty and arid. On the other hand, living in a dry place has caused us to appreciate more the refreshing streams and new life. Right smack in the middle of a desert place, occasionally will be a strip of lush, green, thick, healthy looking foliage, and we know there must be water there. How fortunate for those plants and trees to have sprouted by life-giving streams of water.
Thank God, we do not have to rely on fortune to find a secure place to be planted! No, we need only to trust in the Lord and in His Word. The results will be strength, courage, nourishment for our spirits, and the ability to have joy, peace, love, and patience, even in the midst of hard times. Stay in the Word, pray for faith, and trust in the One who cannot be moved—in this way, your “roots” will be firmly planted when (not if) the trials come.
When the roots are deep, there is no reason to fear the wind. Unknown
REFLECTION: Are you planted near the nourishing streams of the Lord? Do your roots hold during the storms of life? Is your trust and faith in Him enough to keep you at peace in the highs and lows?
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to stay firmly planted by You. May I long to drink of Your life-giving Word, to trust in Your goodness, and to grow in faith and love. Amen.
